How the Practice Works

Everything is open, so students can start at any step. Points, a timer that starts on the first key, and confetti at the end keep it moving.

Small steps

Each level is split into short steps, so students practice only a few keys before moving on. Nothing is locked.

Stars show what is next

3 stars at 95% accuracy or higher, 2 stars at 85% or higher, and 1 star for finishing. The Next Step button appears after 2 or more stars.

Link to any step

Press Copy link on any step and paste it into Google Classroom, a slide, or Thinkific. Students land right on that step.

A results screen to show you

Students see their level, step, date, stars, accuracy, and words per minute. Nothing is sent or saved.

Finger Guide

Turn it on for colored keys, a finger label, and a get-ready tip. It matters most from 2nd grade up.

Music, sounds, and read-aloud

An original music loop and sound effects can be turned off. The K-2 levels have a Hear it button that reads the prompt aloud.

What Each Level Practices

Grades 3-5 see a goal bar based on the goals I use in my own classroom. K-2 have no goal.

2nd Grade

Beat your own best

A passage matched to 2nd grade.

3rd Grade

4th and 5th Grade

4th grade: 20 to 25
5th grade: 25 to 30

Why I Made This

I wanted typing practice that is safe for my students and doesn't need a separate account.

This one opens with one click, no sign-in, and nothing is collected. Scores stay on each student's own device.

I put it on my own website because some school systems block certain hosting sites.

Questions Teachers Might Have

Is it free, and do students need to log in?

Yes, it is free. Students never sign in or make an account. They open the link and start typing.

Does it collect student data?

No. Progress is saved privately on the student's own device, so I can't see it and neither can you. A different computer will not show the same stars. The only thing I collect is your email, if you join my list to get the link.

What devices does it work on?

Chromebooks and computers with a keyboard. It is not built for tablets or phones.

Why is the link sent by email?

The link is my free resource for teachers who join my email list. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Does it work offline?

No. The page needs to load, and the fonts come from Google.

Can I assign a specific step?

Yes. Press Copy link on any step and paste it wherever your students get assignments. A link that doesn't match a real step opens the home screen.

How do I know a student practiced?

The results screen shows the level, step, date, stars, accuracy, and words per minute, so a student can show you. Nothing is sent to you.

Is the speed test a grade?

No. It is a personal best tracker, not a ranking or a grade.

Is this a typing game?

It is a typing practice activity with points, stars, and music.
